Weekly Schedule 2/7/2022 — Happy Continued Lunar New Year

Week 100 - In case you were wondering, I started writing these weekly emails for a few reasons. Mainly, I was irritated by all the banal sales emails various businesses send out. So often these emails lack any connection with what's current in our lives. I also realized that a Weekly Schedule email with a schedule that does not change is pretty boring both to write and to read. So, I buckled up and started to check in with my "friend", Google, on a weekly basis, inspired by my interest at the moment.

Lunar New Year celebrations (via CNN.com) are a bit more poignant this year, with a reported 339% increase in Anti-Asian hate crimes nationwide last year (via NBCNews.com). The article that originally brought my focus to the current increase in hate crimes against Asians was a Stylist UK article by Lucy Tandon Copp highlighting micro- and macro-aggressions the Asian community regularly encounters in the cosmetics industry, as well a pointing out some specific transgressions that serve as a reminder that just when you think, "no one would say something like that..." -- they do. We still have lots of communal work to do to honor the lives of all Asian people.

With that in mind, tomorrow is the seventh day of the Lunar New Year -- referred to as "the people's birthday". Let us choose to stand up for, celebrate, and honor the people and traditions of Asian communities across the globe.

9:30am PST - Tuesday, 2/8/2022:

  • ONLINE Pilates Mat (Mixed Level)

In February's class format we are finally getting to the wall. We're putting our feet on the wall, so wear clean socks to keep your wall clean. Keep the long foam roller (36" long), light hand weights, and a resistance band available. Our focus is varying the planes of motion for the body and mind for better balance. Video available if you can't attend live.

9:30am PST - Thursday, 2/10/2022:

  • ONLINE Balance and Flow GYROKINESIS® 

Our February focus is flowing through the seated arm-work, then getting more into legs and pelvis on the floor. Maybe even getting to lying down on our fronts... Remember, there are always options available if you're just not feeling the floor. Have your stool/ chair, two bath towels (blankets, etc.), and some wall space free.

Focusing on the ability of the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® to increase circulation, mobilize and strengthen joints, and increase proprioceptive awareness, this Zoom class prepares the body for more confidence in standing balance work. Video available if you can't attend live.
