Learn about Pilates and GYROTONIC® exercise
GYROTONIC® Methods
The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® is a form of deep abdominal strengthening combining aspects of yoga, swimming, tai chi, gymnastics and dance. It focuses on the body’s natural movement in three dimensions, breathing, as well as continuous motion that is smooth and uninterrupted. The prime focus is lengthening muscles and increasing space around joints while strengthening and toning the body as a whole. GYROKINESIS® exercises are executed in flow while seated, on a mat in both seated and kneeling positions, as well as standing. Gyrotonic exercises are performed on specialized equipment created by founder Juliu Horvath which support and challenge the body. More information about the Gyrotonic Expansion System is found on the GYROTONIC® website. We offer drop-in, open-level Gyrotonic Pulley Tower classes, and a Posture Focused Gyrotonic Pulley Tower class that is geared toward older adults and is generally safe for low bone density. All of our clases have a maximum of four people.
TESTIMONIAL
Pilates
Joseph Pilates started developing his eponymous exercise system - then called Contrology - while he was a Prisoner-of-War on the Isle of Man during World War I, and brought it to the United States when he and his wife, Clara, moved to New York City in 1926. Since that time, Pilates has evolved and spread throughout the world helping athletes, dancers, and everyday people strengthen muscles, increase flexibility, rehabilitate injuries, and improve their overall health. A typical Pilates session is on a mat or on special equipment inspired by the original apparatus invented by Mr. Pilates and can be done privately or in group settings. Our studio uses a clinical height combination Cadillac-Reformer, the Combo Chair, and Spine Corrector for Individual Appointments. We also offer online Pilates Mat classes for all levels, as well as in-person Springboard classes.
