Weekly Schedule 2/28/2022 — We Didn’t Start The Fire

Week 103 - I find myself thinking back to 8th grade. My English teacher assigned each student a section of Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start The Fire". I can't remember my exact research section, but I do remember thinking what a lot of things happened in our world, as well as being struck by the chorus:

We didn't start the fire
It was always burning since the world's been turning
We didn't start the fire
No, we didn't light it but we tried to fight it

As Russia attacks Ukraine, those words take on refreshed poignancy.

For more information on this ongoing conflict, I appreciate the work of experts via The Conversation, and how they contextualize -- rather than sensationalize -- current events.

I subscribed to 28 Days of Black History again this year, and appreciated the detail and perspective the founder and curators Nicole Cardoza, Shanaé Burch, and Camille Bethune-Brown bring to my educational process. From Day 16, "The Combahee River Collective Statement":

If Black women were free, it would mean that everyone else would have to be free, since our freedom would necessitate the destruction of all systems of oppression.

It's not too late to sign up and either start or deepen your education. Let's make a point to focus on the contributions of Black women through March and beyond as we wrap up Black History Month and begin Women's History Month.

Here's what's on the schedule this week:

Continuing with deeper exploration of the 60-Minute class format, we flow through the seated spinal and arm work, then adding sections of foot, leg, and hip work (variations for seated, standing, or on the floor).

Focusing on the ability of the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® to increase circulation, mobilize and strengthen joints, and increase proprioceptive awareness, this Zoom class prepares the body for more confidence in standing balance work. Video available if you can't attend live.
